Government thinktank NITI Aayog has urged the Ministry of Power and the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission to develop and publish model green tariff, banking, and open access principles for data centers’ procurement of round-the-clock renewable energy and battery storage-backed electricity. Data center operators must procure firm renewable power through captive generation or open access arrangements backed by energy storage systems so that the reliance on distribution companies’ electricity supply is reduced.
