The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has revised its Manual on Transmission Planning Criteria to include provisions for ultra high-voltage alternating current (UHVAC) transmission systems and updated modeling requirements for renewable energy projects, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and high-voltage direct current (HVDC) infrastructure. The revised criteria, effective October 15, 2026, will apply to all new transmission systems planned from that date. Expansion of existing transmission infrastructure will also be planned under the revised criteria.
